First Aid Training Courses

Courses

Provision of appropriate first aid in the workplace is a legal requirement of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981.

The final decision of an organisation will be based on their assessment of needs.  However, the HSE’s approved code of practice to the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations suggests that small organisations (up to 20 employees) with low risk may find the appointment of an Appointed Person is needed, but not trained first aiders.  Where lower risk organisations have more employees (25-50) they would typically appoint at least one first aider trained in Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW), this would also be the case for higher risk organisations with 5-50 employees.

Where organisations have more than 50 employees at least one first aider trained to First Aid at Work (FAW) level should be appointed

Whilst the Emergency First Aid at Work course equips first aiders so that they can give first aid to someone who is injured or ill, the longer and more comprehensive 3 day First Aid at Work course includes the elements of the Emergency First Aid at Work course and also trains the first aider to apply first aid to a number of specific injuries and illnesses.

ACT Academy provides the following HSE approved first aid courses.

Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW)
This 1 day course gives you a very good understanding of First Aid. The course is designed to provide cover for the workplace where employers have carried out their risk assessment and decided in line with the First Aid at Work Regulations that this level of training will meet their legal obligations.

First Aid at Work (FAW)
This 3 day course offers a range of first aid competencies needed in any workplace giving the learner the ability to administer first aid safely, promptly and effectively to a casualty.

First Aid at Work Refresher
This 2 day course enables first aiders that hold the First Aid at Work certificate to refresh their skills and update their knowledge. This course covers the First Aid at Work syllabus and ensures that time is given to practice practical sessions and review updates.
