NEBOSH General Certificate Q&A with a tutor

Nebosh By Matthew Coombes

The National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) accredit many of our health and safety qualifications, including the General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety. The General Certificate is one of the UK’s leading health and safety training courses, and it’s held by over 200,000 professionals. We are proud to be a Gold Standard NEBOSH Learning Partner who have been delivering the NEBOSH General Certificate course since 1991.

We spoke to our tutor, Geoff Littley, to find out why he thinks that the General Certificate is so popular.

Who is the certificate for?

The NEBOSH General Certificate is relevant to every workplace, it’s ideal for managers, supervisors or anyone with health and safety management responsibilities. It’s perfect for those that are looking to embark into a career in health and safety.

Why should people take it?

Managing health and safety is an integral part of life at work. This course covers a wide range of interesting subjects, most of which are relevant to every workplace. This makes it a robust qualification for those that are looking to properly manage health and safety.

What do you think about the new assessment format?

The new assessment is a challenging exercise that thoroughly examines your understanding of the subject and ability to apply that knowledge to a realistic scenario. I think that the new online format makes the exam more easily accessible for professionals that have a busy work/home life, and may encourage more people to develop their knowledge in health and safety.

What’s your favourite thing about teaching the NG course?

I enjoy meeting friendly people from a wide range of backgrounds and learning from each other. It’s great to see learners share their experiences, expertise and knowledge.

What do you think makes the NG so popular?

It’s a prestigious qualification that is recognised worldwide and equips learners well for the challenges of the modern workplace.

Where should learners think to go next after completing an NG?

Normally after completing the NEBOSH General Certificate, learners will go on to take the NEBOSH National Diploma. The diploma is a degree level qualification and it builds on the knowledge of the General Certificate, so it’s a natural next step for those looking to enter a career in health and safety.
