Ideal for managers, safety representatives and health and safety advisors working within the process industries, both inside and outside the UK.

It is not designed for chemical and process safety engineers experienced in the specification, design and maintenance of process plant.

It is recommended that learners should already have an underpinning knowledge of health and safety issues, and many will have gained another NEBOSH qualification.

The NEBOSH HSE Certificate in Process Safety management benefits companies working in the process industries such as oil and gas, chemicals, plastics and pharmaceuticals who are seeking to implement effective process safety management.

It is used effectively by industry to help keep people safe from injury and help prevent loss of life. For employers this also means protecting valuable assets and avoiding prosecution, litigation and loss of reputation.

People who hold the NEBOSH HSE Certificate in Process Safety Management have practical knowledge that brings real value, wherever they operate. This can help employers achieve international standards and can even help win new business.

Throughout the course learners will develop the key skills needed to assess risks and hazards, protect against fire and effectively lead process management while considering health and safety.

On completion of the qualification, learners will have a good understanding of:

Upon completion of this NEBOSH HSE Certificate in Process Safety Management course, learners will have the skills to assist their organisation to understand the difference between “process safety” and “personal safety”.

The NEBOSH HSE Certificate in Process Safety Management is a one-unit qualification entitled ‘Unit PSM1: Process safety management’

This course is divided in to four elements designed to enable learners to contribute to the management of process safety risks.

  • Element 1: Process safety leadership
  • Element 2: Management of process risk
  • Element 3: Process safety hazard control
  • Element 4: Fire protection and emergency response

Important key topics covered by the NEBOSH Process Safety Management Certificate include:

  • Process Safety Leadership
  • Management of Change

  • Management of Process Risk
  • Process Safety Hazard Control
  • Fire and Explosion Protection

To gain this qualification, learners must achieve a minimum of 60% in an online 90-minute multiple-choice assessment that takes place following completion of the course.

This assessment is accessed and completed via NEBOSH’s online assessment platform, and must be completed within the given 24-hour window on the next available date set by NEBOSH, normally within four weeks of the end of the course.

These assessments will also be remotely proctored by NEBOSH to ensure their integrity.

We strongly recommend that you check your computer/laptop system against the requirements listed by their remote proctoring service, Proctorio, available via their website.

Once you have achieved a pass, your parchment will be issued.  This is normally within 20 working days of the confirmation of your results.

The course is delivered over 4 days.

You should plan your study around a minimum of 28 taught hours and approximately 20 hours of private study.

This course is supported by a NEBOSH Study Guide, which covers the course syllabus and content in detail.

The book contains practical activities, case studies and key terminology definitions. It can be used during a taught course or as a reference once studies are completed. Process Safety Management covers process safety leadership, management of process risk, process safety hazard control and fire and explosion protection. NEBOSH hopes the book will also become a valuable reference source once the leader is back in the workplace.

The NEBOSH Study Guide is available as both a hardcopy and an e-book for all learners taking the course.

If this is your first NEBOSH Certificate level qualification, you may be interested in taking another NEBOSH Certificate qualification, such as the NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health, the NEBOSH National Certificate in Fire Safety or NEBOSH IIRSM Certificate in Managing Risk.
