Most NEBOSH qualifications are accredited by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA). The qualification levels offered by NEBOSH vary by course. Most Award level qualifications are equivalent to a Level 2 in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland. Certificate-level qualifications like the National General Certificate and the Certificate in Fire Safety are equivalent to a Level 3, and the Health and Safety Management for Construction is equivalent to a Level 4 qualification.

The NEBOSH National Diploma is accredited by Ofqual and is equivalent to a Level 6.

NEBOSH offer qualifications that are applicable to a wide range of industries and workplaces, as well are more specialised courses such as the Health and Safety Management for Construction, NEBOSH Award and Certificate level courses also have no entry requirements other than a good understanding of English.

Many NEBOSH qualifications may also benefit those who have a responsibility for others in their everyday job role without being directly involved in workplace health and safety, such as supervisors, managers, and HR specialists.

NEBOSH qualifications are universally recognised as a demonstration of good health and safety knowledge. It’s common for employers to specify that NEBOSH qualification is required as a minimum when looking to employ a health and safety professional.

Achieving certain NEBOSH qualifications will also allow you to apply for Technical Membership (TechIOSH) of IOSH and Associate Membership of the Institute of Risk and Safety Management (IIRSM), with appropriate experience.

NEBOSH courses can be challenging, especially to those who have not taken an assessment in some time, however they are achievable with the right level of preparation.

NEBOSH assessments are designed to allow you to demonstrate what you can do with the knowledge you’ve gained throughout your studies. All of our NEBOSH courses include mock assessment questions and practice exercises to help you feel prepared and confident going in to your assessment.

Studying with ACT ensures you the best chance of obtaining a NEBOSH qualification, our excellent course materials are developed by experts in health and safety, drawing from their own professional careers and our experience delivering high quality courses since 1991. This high standard of quality is present in all of our classroom and E-Learning courses, and it is something that we pride ourselves upon as a company.

The length of a NEBOSH course depends on the qualification itself. Many of the Award level qualifications such as the Environmental Awareness at Work Award and Working with Wellbeing take one day to complete, in both face-to-face and virtual classrooms. Assessments for these qualifications are submitted either on the final day of the course or in the days that follow.

Certificate level qualifications are much more in-depth and can take up to two weeks of tutor-led teaching, as well as self-directed study in between study periods. The NEBOSH Diploma is the most complex qualification, and consists of three units that each contain around two weeks of tutor-led teaching, as well as a recommended 144 hours of self-study overall.

Assessments for these qualifications are then taken on a fixed date set by NEBOSH.
