Background

A leading company in the food and drink industry, with operations around the world, wanted to improve its Health and Safety culture across all its locations. The company had employees working in laboratories, production lines, and offices. They needed a training solution that would make sure everyone, no matter their role, understood how to keep the workplace safe.

Challenges

The company realised it needed to educate all employees – whether they were factory workers or top-level executives – on their role in Health and Safety. One of the main goals was to create a culture where safety was everyone’s responsibility. The leadership team had to set the right example, so the whole company would follow suit.

Solution

ACT stepped in with a range of training programmes, with a big focus on leadership to help drive change in the company’s safety culture. The main training offered included:

IOSH Safety for Executives and Directors

ACT ran a training course for the leadership team, helping them understand their legal, moral, and financial responsibilities when it comes to Health and Safety. The course taught them how to lead by example and create a workplace where safety is a priority. With this knowledge, the leaders were able to promote a culture of safety throughout the company, setting the right tone from the top.

Health & Safety Awareness for Employees

ACT also provided training for employees in every department, helping them understand how to follow safety procedures. This included recognising potential hazards, following safety rules, and knowing how to report unsafe conditions. The aim was to make sure everyone understood how to take responsibility for their own safety and that of their colleagues.

Conclusion

Thanks to ACT’s support, especially with the IOSH Safety for Executives and Directors course, the company has made great progress in improving its Health and Safety culture. The leadership team continues to drive safety efforts, ensuring it stays a top priority across the organisation, creating a safer and more efficient workplace.
This case study shows how important strong leadership is in building a safety-first culture and how ongoing, tailored training is key to maintaining high safety standards across an organisation. By equipping both leaders and employees with the right knowledge, the company has made great strides toward a safer workplace for everyone.
