At ACT, our NEBOSH Construction classroom courses have always been among the most popular courses we offer. Classroom courses offer a sociable learning experience lead by experts in the industry. We’re extremely proud that our February 2025 classroom course, lead by ACT Tutor Richard Dawson, achieved a 100% pass rate when it came to their exams. One of those learners currently celebrating his newly achieved NEBOSH Certificate in Health and Safety Management for Construction is Scott Wilson. We caught up with him to find out a little more about his learning journey and where he hopes the qualification will take him.
Why did you choose the NEBOSH Construction Certificate?
I have been involved in the construction industry for over 35 years; I have been planning to carryout formal health and safety training for a while and luckily the opportunity arose earlier this year.
Why did you choose the classroom course over other learning methods?
I find interaction with people is the best and most interesting way for me to learn.
What is your current job role and what does it involve?
I am Director of a construction company which turns over in the region of £12-15 million, being a smaller company my role covers most aspects of the industry including health and safety, estimating, surveying and the day-to-day operations on our projects.
How do you plan to use your new knowledge in your day-to-day responsibilities within your role?
To improve both my own and the company’s performance in relation to health and safety.
What advice would you give others considering studying for their Construction Certificate?
Read through previous papers as this helps understand the answers NEBOSH are looking for based on the way they word the questions.
How did you approach preparing for your assessment?
We worked through some example questions during the course, and I did complete a previous paper in full and tried to do as much background reading / research as possible.
What were some of the challenges you faced in your studies?
The same challenges as we face everyday in construction – finding enough time to fit everything into a working day.
How did you approach the balance of your career, your studies, and your personal life?
Tried to ensure I left time at the end of each day to do a bit of research or read through some previous papers.
What do you hope to have achieved in the next 5 years?
Workwise my target has not changed hopefully helping to ensure that everyone that enters one of our sites leaves safely.
Do you have any final thoughts to share on your journey?
I am glad I completed the course not just to achieve the qualification but I do find it helps you look at work activities differently.
