In May 2026, we’re proud to share that we celebrated our 10,000th UKATA certificate generated – a huge milestone for our organisation.

The UK Asbestos Training Association, otherwise known as UKATA, is a leading association dedicated to improving the quality and standards of asbestos training across the UK. Although asbestos was banned in the UK in 1999, it is still present in an estimated 1.5 million buildings, including schools, hospitals, and private homes. Exposure to asbestos can cause severe and often deadly health conditions such as asbestosis, lung cancer, and mesothelioma.

Because of this, The Control of Asbestos Regulations was updated in 2012 to make it mandatory for anyone who’s likely to disturb or be exposed to asbestos fibres at work to undergo regular accredited training. This includes construction workers, maintenance staff, and building managers. UKATA’s Asbestos Awareness course meets this criteria and ensures workplaces stay compliant.

The course provides learners with a basic understanding of asbestos and how to avoid it, including:

  • Types of asbestos
  • Risks of asbestos and effects on health
  • Common uses and locations

When it comes to Asbestos Awareness training, learners who choose ACT can follow the learning path that works for them. We regularly run half-day classroom and virtual classroom courses for learners that prefer a structured and interactive learning experience. Alternatively it is also available as an e-learning course that can be accessed around the clock, 24-7 from any device with internet access.

Just a few hours of accredited training each year around the dangers of asbestos can help protect people from life-changing conditions, and at ACT we’re proud to have played our part over 10,000 times.
