What does the General Certificate cover?

The NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety is designed to get you working towards what is considered to be good practice in health and safety. So, what’s changed?

The modern workplace is constantly shifting and evolving, and NEBOSH have recently updated the General Certificate Syllabus to reflect this. There have been a lot of changes both minor and major to the syllabus, but some of the more key changes are as follows:

• The language of the course has been made easier to understand; with less jargon involved the course has become more approachable to those with no health and safety experience.
• The new syllabus is also less focused on exams, and more on the practical approach to health and safety. The previous General Certificate assessments were two written examinations and the practical risk assessment. The new NG only has one exam to assess what you know and a larger focus on the practical risk assessment that assess what you can do with this knowledge.
• The changes to the units have reduced the hours required to fully complete the syllabus, it is recommended to take around 113 hours of study to complete both units of the NEBOSH General Certificate.
